The Florida Aviation Trades Association ( FATA) represents general aviation businesses in Florida and has taken an active role in promoting and protecting aviation since 1946. Our support of Florida Senate Bill 300 is an example of our advocacy for the aviation industry that is an integral part of Florida’s economy.
The intent of Bill 300 is to simply allow owners of newly purchased aircraft to come to Florida for up to 21 days during the first 6 months of ownership without concern for having to pay a use tax.The current statute can be misunderstood, misinterpreted and confusing so aircraft owners across the country. They have been warned, “Do not come to Florida.” Aviation events planned for Florida have been cancelled, vacation plans changed as aircraft owners are unsure of the consequences of visiting Florida. The change will also allow owners of newly purchased aircraft to do flight training and have maintenance performed on their aircraft in Florida during this 6 month period.
In these economic times, we don’t want anything to discourage people from visiting Florida’s businesses and tourist attractions. These visitors generate revenue for the State which is greater than the minimal revenue generated by the use tax.
Florida’s extensive airport network lends itself to a vibrant aviation industry. It is one of our most valuable assets. We are asking for your support of Bill 300 to help Florida’s economy.
