Joni Hunt - Selected to participate in Leadership Florida
Those of us on the Board who have worked closely with Joni Hunt know what a special person she is. She is a great asset to our Association and brings not only a positive attitude and great smile to our meetings but knowledge and organizational skills that have showcased her leadership talent.
Now her talents are being recognized by Leadership Florida as she was asked to be part of a select group of individuals from Florida to participate in a special program for future Florida leaders.
As stated on the Leadership Florida website, "To progress with strength, we must develop a common vision and a statewide commitment to excellence. Since its founding in 1982 by the Florida Chamber, Leadership Florida has provided a non-partisan, non-parochial perspective about statewide topics of concern and opportunities while encouraging interaction among the state’s leadership."
The Annual Class Program
The bedrock of Leadership Florida is the Annual Class Program. Each year, Florida’s finest leaders are selected to participate in an eight-month curriculum, meeting in six different Florida cities. Participants are chosen for their abilities, passion about our state, and commitment to help make great things happen for Florida.

Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology…Aviation Maintenance Technology
Aviation/aerospace has been one of Florida’s targeted industries for high wage, valu-added job creation. Our state has diligently recruited aviation companies to complement existent industries.
Recognizing that the foundation for any quality growth or retention in this industry would be an Airframe and Power Plant Mechanics Certification Program, Gene Schmidt, Executive Director of the Collier county airport Authority in 1999, appealed to the School district of Collier County to respond to the need to develop such a program. The conclusion of the partnership has resulted in a fully FAA certified Airframe and Power Plant program which has been in successful operation for five years. Located near naples airport, the classrooms are complete with state of the art computer based programs and training aids including reciprocating turbo shaft and turbo prop engines. The facilities also include a wee equipped shop with mock-up and training aides.
